More Experimenting
I've been playing again! I wanted to see what would happen when I handpainted recycled yarn with Wilton's. Here's what I got. I think I like it!
First, the finished sample: knit on size 4US needles.
Here's how it started out: a gold Eddie Bauer man's sweater of a lace-weight wool/rayon blend.
Handpainted with Wilton's and ready for the microwave.
Ta-Dah!!!!!
I think I will be playing some more with this technique!

Wow, that's very nice! Did you add that pinkish-red after you took the "ready for microwave" pic? It turned out so well... you're making me want to go thrifting! :)
Thanks, Terri! Actually, the reddish color is a happy accident. I "almost" forgot to add vinegar to the violet. It popped up red. Then after the vinegar, it brought up the blue in the violet. I liked the color, so set it permanently.

That's awesome! Sooo, how did you deal with the vinegar handpainting? Did you mix the dye and vinegar and then paint?
Well, Hattie, that's what I SHOULD have done. Like I said above, I "forgot" the vinegar until after I had started processing the yarn. I then added the vinegar to my cups of dye and painted some more. So the violet is with the vinegar and the pink color is the violet color prior to adding the vinegar. I'm learning a lot about Red Dye #3...it's really fickle!!
